Middlesbrough lock horns with Everton in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals this week, and are sure to play out a competitive affair. Boro are the underdogs given their Championship status, but Everton are far from the finished article this season, and were held to a draws against Bournemouth on the weekend. With Middlesbrough boasting such a formidable home record, Everton will have to work hard for a result.

Currently second in the Championship and coming off the back of five wins from their last six games, Middlesbrough are in fantastic form ahead of Tuesday night’s clash with Everton, and will be full of confidence of making the semi-finals. As for the visitors, the Toffees have been woeful on the road this season, winning only two away game from seven in the Premier League, and will certainly be in for a difficult game as a result.

Middlesbrough have won seven of their nine home games in the league this season, conceded just two goals. Aitor Karanka’s side are known for their impressive defensive record, but keeping out Everton is a task within itself given the amount of goals having been scored by the Blues. Roberto Martinez’s men have scored 14 goals in their last four Premier League games, so Boro could struggle to keep them quiet.

The home side could well be too defensive against Everton too, dropping too deep to stay organised which in turn sees the visitors enjoying high levels of possession heightening the chance of them scoring. As a result, Everton should come out on top against Middlesbrough, who are sure to put up a fight until the end.
