Everton 3-2 Tottenham: Calvert-Lewin ends drought as Moyes oversees first win of second spell

David Moyes oversaw the first victory of his second Everton spell, as the Toffees held on for a 3-2 win over Tottenham at Goodison Park.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Iliman Ndiaye were on target for the hosts, who ended a six-match winless streak in the Premier League.

Moyes’ side struck twice inside the opening 30 minutes. Calvert-Lewin neatly jinked away from Archie Gray before slotting in his first goal in 16 league games, before Ndiaye’s fine individual effort doubled their lead.

Gray’s own-goal made it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time, but Dejan Kulusevski gave Spurs a glimmer of hope when he lofted into an empty net on 77 minutes.

Ex-Toffee Richarlison then bravely turned in Mikey Moore’s cross to ensure a nervy finish for Everton, who just about held on for a morale-boosting victory.

The Toffees remain in 16th place but move four points clear of the relegation zone – the same margin that now separates them from 15th-place Tottenham, who are without a win in six league outings.

Data Debrief: Spurs’ struggles continue

Tottenham have lost each of their first three Premier League matches of a calendar year for the first time since a run of seven in 1994.

Idrissa Gueye assisted both of Everton’s first two goals, doubling the tally he amassed across his previous 87 league appearances for the Toffees.

In putting through his own net just before half-time, Gray became only the third player aged 18 or younger to score an own-goal in a Premier League match after Gareth Barry (against Charlton Athletic in May 1999) and Martin Cranie (against Chelsea in May 2004).

That put Everton three goals to the good at half-time in a top-flight game for the first time since leading 3-0 at the break against Bournemouth in February 2017.

Richarlison’s stoppage-time strike may have been a consolation, but he continued his record of having scored all three visits to Goodison Park since leaving the Toffees for Spurs.
