Everton and Sunderland out of Van Dijk race

Everton and Sunderland are set to withdraw their interest in signing Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk after being priced out of a potential move, according to the Express.

The centre-back has been the stand out performer for the Scottish champions so far this season, playing every minute of all but two of their league games.

A whole host of English top flight clubs are keen on securing the Netherlands international’s services, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, West Bromwich Albion, Newcastle United, Everton and Sunderland all linked though he has proved to be too expensive for both the Toffees and the Black Cats.

Bhoys boss Ronny Delia is reluctant to let the 23 year old leave without a fight, so has no intention of lowering his value.

Celtic somewhat surprisingly sit in second place in the Premiership as it stands, with Aberdeen currently topping the table though the Glasgow outfit remain odds on favourites to retain the title at a price of 1/12.
