Everton begin Stones contract talks

Everton have open contract talks with Chelsea target John Stones, according to the Mirror.

The twenty-one year old was strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge during the summer, though he remained with the Toffees, for whom he has played all but two games for this season.

The Merseyside club are keen to persuade the centre-back to commit his future them, despite ongoing interest from Premier League champions Chelsea, who are looking to strengthen their squad after a disappointing start to their title defence.

Stones currently has three-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal, which left Everton in a strong position to retain his services during the close season.

Since signing from Barnsley in the summer of 2013, the England international has racked up sixty-two appearances in all competitions, with his only goal for the club so far coming in a 3-0 win against Manchester United back in April.
