Everton are reportedly in pole position to sign Espanyol captain Sergio Garcia, Daily Star has learned.
The Toffees have been closely monitoring the performances of the highly rated forward this season and they recently stepped up their interest in the 30-year-old footballer.
According to Daily Star, Everton have submitted an official proposal for the player’s services worth €3.5 million.
Sergio Garcia is reportedly looking for a new challenge having spent his entire career up to date in Spain.
With his current deal due to expire in June 2015, Espanyol will attempt to persuade him into signing a contract extension, but if they are unsuccessful, los Periquitos will have no option but to sell.
Sergio Garcia, who had come through the youth ranks at Barcelona, has been in scintillating form this season, having managed 10 goals and 6 assists in 27 La Liga fixtures.
His suitors Everton have cemented the sixth place in the standings with a hard-fought triumph over Cardiff City and are available at 4/9 to achieve a top 6 finish.
