Everton have condemned the actions of supporters who threw objects onto the Goodison Park pitch during Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

The club has vowed to take strong action against any supporter found guilty of throwing anything onto the field of play, after a number of objects were aimed at Liverpool players Craig Bellamy and Luis Suarez after the latter notched the second goal in a controversial 2-0 win.

Everton’s director of communications Ian Ross said: “We are fully aware of the incidents which occurred during Saturday’s derby game.”

“We are currently working with Merseyside Police on collating and analysing all available CCTV footage of the incidents.”

“If we can identify any supporter who threw anything – and we mean anything – on to the pitch on Saturday we will take immediate firm and far-reaching action.”

“This behaviour is totally unacceptable and will be rightly condemned by all right-thinking Evertonians – and that is 99.9 per cent of our fan base.”

Suarez was the main target of the Everton fans ire after he made the most of a mistimed Jack Rodwell challenge in the first half which saw the Toffees’ midfielder handed a straight red card.
