Everton have announced that Gretar Steinsson has been appointed the club’s new chief European scout. He spent the last four years with Fleetwood Town as their technical director, and is a former player who featured a lot for Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League.
While this may not seem particularly newsworthy on the face of it, there’s still a certain level of intrigue when it comes to the fact that this has happened. Everton have had a relatively strong start to the campaign but they’ve certainly faltered when it comes to challenging for the European spots, and that’s not difficult to see.
There’s every chance that they’ll be busy in the market during the window and that can only mean good things for the club, especially if they’re looking around the big leagues. While their current squad is more than good enough to compete in the Premier League, a few more signings certainly wouldn’t hurt.
