Everton in talks with wealthy Indian investors

According to reports in some outlets of the media yesterday Everton are in talks with a wealthy Indian group about investment in the club.

The JAIN group are apparently a wealthy property and energy company in their home land.

The details of the investment discussions have yet to be commented on by the club.

Late

If these reports are to be believed then talks with the Indian conglomerate have been on-going for weeks and there is also other interested investors. This will be a relief to us Everton fans but I have to say I will believe it when I see it.

Debts

Despite not having access to the clubs accounts most Everton fans know we have debts of around £30million, give or take a few million. These are not massive debts by Premier League standards. However the club are struggling to make money via corporate hospitality and other streams of income that would help pay off that debt.

Stadium

I love Goodison Park and always will but I have to admit it has seen better days. The grand old stadium doesn’t have the capacity for hosting major corporate events and that’s cost Everton in recent times. As much as it hurts me to say a new stadium with corporate and other facilities is our only hope of keeping up with the clubs around us.

A new stadium is not currently possible because the club simply haven’t got the money to build one. In fact the last few transfer windows have been pretty bleak for the arrival of players as well. We have lost some really talented players and haven’t been able to bring in much.

Fantastic

Everton boss David Moyes has done a fantastic job at the club. The Scot may make the odd tactical mistake but nobody is perfect and without David Moyes Everton probably wouldn’t even be in the Premier League now.

He has produced so many good signings on a limited budget its unbelievable. The likes of Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill and Steven Pienaar all arrived at Everton for relatively small sums of money yet went on to be superb signings.

Even this summer he managed to sign Dutch winger Royston Drenthe on-loan from Real Madrid, with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season. He looks like he could be yet another signing that Moyes has pulled out of nowhere.

Moyes is shrewd in the transfer market and I would just like to see him given a bit of money to spend. I’m not talking Manchester City type money, I’m talking Stoke or Fulham type money to spend. At the moment though we can’t even compete with those sorts of clubs (no disrespect to those clubs).

Worrying

These are worrying times for Everton. Selling our best players off every transfer window leads to one thing and that’s relegation. Every summer or January our team is diluted and David Moyes has to find solutions to losing quality players.

This summer everybody knew we desperately needed a striker. Even Moyes knew we needed a striker but he wasn’t given the funds to sign one because the club didn’t have the money. You have to wonder how a club the size of Everton can get into such bad financial dire straits.

Down the years the club have been poorly managed behind the scenes. The directors and chairman must have known this mess would only get worse. Yet here we are £30million in debt and struggling to sign loan players in the transfer windows.

I don’t blame Bill Kenwright, he is a true Everton supporter but he knows he is out of his depth. He is a businessman, so he should of tried to identify this problem earlier in his reign.

Its no secret that he has been attempting to sell the club for the last few years but surely he must have had financial advice earlier in his tenure about how the club could have been run better. And if not why not?

Hopeful

I hope there is something in these rumours about investment in the Blues. Everton are lucky to have David Moyes as boss as I’d hate to think where we would be without him. Hopefully by January Everton will be in a position to provide him with some funds to strengthen his small squad.

I am usually sceptical over these sorts of stories. However these particular rumours seem to have some weight behind them. I don’t want to get Everton fans hopes up because as we all know it’s the hope that kills you!

Can Everton find investment before the next transfer window shuts?
