Premier League high-flyers Everton are showing interest in Groningen defender Virgil van Dijk, according to Voetbal International.
With John Heitinga looking to leave Goodison Park in search of first team football, the Toffees might need to sign another central defender by the time the January transfer window closes.
Voetbal International understands they have set their sights on Groningen starlet Virgil van Dijk.
Van Dijk, 21, is widely regarded as one of the most talented stoppers in Dutch Eredivisie and he could be leaving the Netherlands in the coming weeks.
The player confirms he is aware that Everton, among other clubs, are interested in his signature.
“I’m aware of the interest of a few clubs and Everton is one of them”, Van Dijk told Voetbal International.
Virgil Van Dijk arrived at Groningen as a youngster from Williem II and didn’t need a lot of time to establish himself as a first team regular at the club.
In total, Van Dijk has made 46 Eredivisie appearances for the Euroborg outfit, and scored 7 goals in the process.
