Everton have rejected an improved offer of around £36m from Manchester United for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, according to the Express.
The bid is thought to see the Belgium midfielder priced at the value of his recently expired, £23.5m buyout clause, with the remaining £12.5m earmarked for the England left-back.
Toffee’s boss Roberto Martinez has insisted that the pair are not for sale, with the club having already knocked back a number of individual and joint bids from the Premier League champions.
Former Everton manager David Moyes, now at United is keen to bring in reinforcements before Monday evenings transfer deadline and has made signing a new central midfielder his priority.
He has so far failed to agree deals for a number of targets in that position incuding Fellaini, Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas, while the Mail Online understands that Athletic Bilbao today rejected their £25m bid for Ander Herrara, who impressed against United in the Europa League eighteen months ago.
