Everton slap £20m price tag on Baines

David Moyes has been told that he will need to cough up £20m if he wants to take Leighton Baines to Old Trafford, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League champions failed with two bids for the England international during the summer, though he remains top of his former manager’s wish list.

Patrice Evra, who has been the clubs first choice left-back since he joined from Monaco in January 2006, has been linked with a move away when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Alexander Buttner was brought as competition for Evra last summer, but has failed to make a real impression on the first team, mustering just six league appearances in his time on Manchester.

Baines is battling with Ashley Cole for a starting berth at next summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil, and a move to a club competing in the Champions League may well increase his chances.
