Everton have joined the race for the signature of Santiago Arias, currently on loan at Bayer Leverkusen from Atletico Madrid, according to German publication Kicker.
The Toffees are obviously on the hunt for a new right back to boost the competition on the right defensive flank. Apart from Arias, they’ve also been linked with Max Aarons of Norwich City and Brighton and Hove Albion’s Tariq Lamptey.
Arias, 29, made the season-long switch to Leverkusen from the Spanish capital last summer, but having made a single Bundesliga appearance – the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw away to VfB Stuttgart, he suffered a fibula fracture back in October and has been out of action since. He is due to return to the Wanda Metropolitano in the summer, where his contract runs for two more years. However, he obviously has no place in the plans of Atletico boss Diego Simeone, and there have been reports that the Rojiblancos are looking to offload him for a suitable fee.
Apart from Everton, Paris Saint-Germain and AS Roma have also been credited with interest in the 53-time Colombia international.
