Everton sporting director Marcel Brands has revealed that the club are working on offloading unneeded players in the January transfer window, and that they don’t expect to make any signings.
The Toffees signed James Rodriguez, Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ben Godfrey and Niels Nkounkou last summer, and now they are focusing their efforts on recouping some of the funds invested in those players and reducing the overall wage bill. Striker Moise Kean is currently on loan at Paris Saint-Germain and reportedly keen to make the switch permanent. Defender Jonjoe Kenny and winger Bernard are also open to the possibility of leaving Goodison Park this month.
Speaking at Everon’s general meeting on Thursday, Brands said:
“We are still working to offload some players for new challenges in their careers. We don’t expect to sign new players in this window.”
The Merseyside club’s sporting director also said that the average age of the squad, 26, is a lot lower than it was two seasons ago.
