Craig Moore, former captain of the Australian national football team, is to go on trial in Dubai on Sunday over an alleged drunken brawl with police, the Gulf News reported.

Moore, 34, was arrested on Wednesday for “an alleged drunken altercation with police,” the newspaper said on Saturday, without giving a source.

He was released on bail on Friday and ordered to appear in court, it added, without providing further details.

The Australian foreign ministry was quoted as saying consular officials had spoken to Moore on Thursday and that he was well.

The ex-Glasgow Rangers, Borussia Moenchengladbach and Newcastle United defender retired from football in July after this year’s World Cup, following a distinguished career that included 52 caps and three goals for the Socceroos.
