Looking to carry on what has been a stellar start to the new League Two campaign, league leaders Exeter will travel to Carlisle’s Bruton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Carlisle may have managed to clinch a hard-fought 1-0 win over Scunthorpe United last weekend, Steven Pressley’s side still find themselves in the midst of a struggle entering September. Freefalling down the League Two table after missing out on the play-offs last season, the former Fleetwood boss recorded just a single victory since the 13th of August and are his side are still struggling with some defensive issues. Losing three of their last five and also crashing out of the EFL Cup at the hands of Rochdale last month, Carlisle could once again be in store for another tricky afternoon at Bruton Park.

As for the visitors, securing a 1-0 win over Cheltenham Town and progressing well in the EFL Trophy, the mood in Exeter’s camp remains on a high. Now holding a two-point buffer at the top of the table and desperate to secure an automatic route to the third-tier, Matt Taylor’s men are one of just two sides to maintain an unbeaten start in League Two. Now securing three wins on the bounce, fans around Devon will be most impressed by the Whites’ newfound defensive resolve. Exeter have recorded three clean sheets in their last four appearances and it is also worth noting they have remarkably lost just a single away match since the start of April.
