FA: Capello fine to select Terry

The Football Association has backed Fabio Capello over his decision to select John Terry for England’s friendlies against Spain and Sweden.

The England and Chelsea captain is currently being investigated after allegedly making racist remarks towards QPR defender Anton Ferdinand in an English Premier League match on October 23.

Capello has indicated that the 30-year-old could only feature for a brief period over the course of the two games because he is opting to to take a look at other players ahead of the European Championships next year.

England host world and European champions Spain on Saturday, before returning to Wembley Stadium on Tuesday to meet Sweden.

Club England managing director Adrian Bevington told Sky Sports News: “There was a lot of conjecture about this subject last week and some stories and certain media outlets suggested that there might have been some disagreement between Fabio and the FA (over the selection of Terry).”

“I can confirm that there was nothing of that sort.”

“We can’t comment on specific issues, but what we can say is that these are allegations and therefore Fabio was perfectly entitled (to pick Terry) and we agree with this.”

“There are allegations in place and nothing has been proven against anybody. So Fabio picked John Terry and we support that decision.”
