Leyton Orient avoided an FA Cup boilover after Scott McGleish’s second-half goal earned his side a 1-1 draw with non-league club Droylsden.
In the only Round 2 fixture on Monday, League One outfit Orient appeared destined for a surprise exit when former Manchester City trainee Ciaran Kilheeney headed home a free kick in the 24th minute.
Droylsden had given their higher-profile opposition fair warning, having kept Blackburn loanee Jason Brown busy in the Orient goal in the game’s frantic opening stages at The Butcher’s Arms Ground.
But after ending the half a goal down to the Conference North side, it was hardly surprising to see Orient emerge the better side in the second period.
Aaron Brown and Terrell Forbes went close, before much-travelled 36-year-old forward McGleish rose best to head the away side level from Dean Cox’s free kick in the 73rd minute.
The result means the two clubs must clash again to decide who will progress to a third round meeting with Norwich City, with a rematch date yet to be set.
