Liverpool ran rampant against League One side Oldham Athletic, beating them 5-1 in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday.
Goals from five different players saw the hosts through to the next round of the competition, as Paul Dickov’s outfit had to deal with cup disappointment after they took the lead.
Robbie Simpson’s long-range strike saw the visitors surprise Liverpool at Anfield, before Craig Bellamy replied immediately and Steven Gerrard converted a penalty just before the break.
A dominant second period saw the Reds put another three past Oldham.
Jonjo Shelvey netted the first with a finish from inside the penalty area, before Andy Carroll silenced his critics with a fantastic long-range effort that smashed against the back of Alex Cisak’s net.
Stewart Downing followed suit with a rebounded goal at the death, rounding off the tie perfectly for the hosts.
