Port Vale booked a spot in the third round of the FA Cup for the first time in five years with a 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley on Friday.

The League Two leaders had a first-half strike from Justin Richards to thank for the victory, but they would have been grateful for a clearance off the goal line from Kris Taylor in the closing stages as their fellow League Two combatants Accrington pushed hard for an equaliser.

Richards struck in the 24th minute to post his first goal in 13 matches.

Also on Friday, non-league Crawley Town earned themselves an away replay against League One outfit Swindon Town after a thrilling 1-1 draw.

Swindon took the lead on 66 minutes thanks to a cool strike from striker Charlie Austin, but Crawley levelled the scores 10 minutes later through Matt Tubbs, who slotted away his 17th goal of the season.
