Brazil striker Luis Fabiano struck just before the interval to give the South Americans with a 1-0 narrow victory against their European opponents in a friendly at Talinn, in Estonia.
The hosts were clearly frustrating the five-times world champions, by their stubborn defensive displays as the visitors had a hard time in finding their rhythm but Luis Fabiano was the savior for the World number 1 ranked team.
The Brazilian’s may have registered their tenth win out of eleven for this year, but minnows Estonia were equal to the task to dry any source of a goal scoring opportunity.
Estonia, who were commemorating the centenary of the nation’s football federation, remained focused to their task by frustrating the Brazilians as they stopped a host of attacking displays from the Confederation Cups winners.
Real Madrid super star, Kaka struggled to get into the game as he lacked match fitness, resonating the the Selecao’s sluggish perfromance.
However, Dunga’s side went ahead three minutes before the half-time break, when Sevilla FC striker Luis Fabiano took advantage of a rare lapse of concentration by the Estonia defence with a calm finish.
But three minutes into the second period Felipe Melo had a great opportunity to double Brazil’s lead, but he failed to convert.
Dunga made a number of changes to the side during the half, giving Atletico Mineiro striker Diego Tardelli his first cap with the national team.
The match looked nothing like a friendly, as both teams were determined to win. Brazil proved superior to their opponents, but the locals provoked them with dangerous tackles.
In the dying minutes of the match Brazil should have been awarded a penalty kick when Nilmar was brought down in the area, but match referee Martin Ingvarsson waved play on.
Brazil will be pleased with themselves after the victory considering most of the players hadn’t played a fixture before this match.
