Portuguese coach Andre Villas-Boas has finally paid the price for some disappointing results this season, with 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool the last drop.
And shortly after the Spurs announced their decision to sack the former Porto manager, Russia boss Fabio Capello has been made 8/11 favourite to become next permanent manager.
Oddly enough, the Italian was in the stands at White Hart Lane as Tottenham suffered another embarrassing defeat, with odds on him slashed from 7/2.
The former England manager could be tempted by the opportunity to return to club football, and it does appear as though he is the number one favourite to replace Villas-Boas.
“We saw money for Capello to take over before AVB had officially gone, and the gamble on the former England manager has accelerated now that the sacking has been confirmed,” Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Donohue said.
“Some punters seem to think Jurgen Klinsmann will be making a return to the Lane instead however.”
Meanwhile, Michael Laudrup and Guus Hiddink are 9/2 and 8/1 respectively, whereas Ajax manager Frank de Boer is priced at 10/1.
Whatever happens, Tottenham chiefs will have to act quickly as Spurs desperately need to arrest their latest downtrend in fortunes.
