Returning from the international break this weekend away at a struggling Blackpool, a high-flying Fulham should be relishing a trip to Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Blackpool might have managed to enjoy a real romp as they stormed their way to a Championship return last season, the Oranges have largely struggled to keep up that momentum. Enduring what was a sluggish pre-season run over the summer, Head Coach Neil Critchley finds his side tipped as a leading relegation contender this time around. Last seen heading into the international break with a 2-1 defeat away at Millwall, the former Liverpool coach has seen his side muster just a pair of points from their opening five Championship contests. Also crashing out of the League Cup at the hands of League One side Sunderland last month, Blackpool have also shown a host of issues on home soil. Losing each of their last three straight contests at Bloomfield Road, Critchley’s side should face another stern test here.
As for the visitors, making the call to turn to new boss Marco Silva over the summer, few would have expected what has been a stunning purple patch for Fulham. Laying down yet another marker as they headed into the international break, the Cottagers were last seen landing an eye-catching 3-0 romp against Stoke in West London. Storming their way to the top of the table and with their sights firmly set on securing an immediate Premier League return, the former Everton boss will be hugely excited by Fabio Carvalho’s free-scoring start to the 2021/22 campaign. Only continuing to impress since bursting into Fulham’s first-team earlier in the year, the 19-year-old starlet has now racked up three Championship goals in his last four contests. Given Blackpool’s worrying start to the new season, Fulham’s starlet should be smelling another chance here.
