According to Sky Sports sources, Cesc Fabregas has indeed agreed a three year deal to join AS Monaco – but in the summer transfer window when his contract runs out, as opposed to in January as many fans were anticipating.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri was in favour of the Spaniard making the jump over to French football, but apparently, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia is blocking the arranged deal. The reason is that she wants the Blues to find a replacement for Cesc before he eventually leaves Stamford Bridge, with Paredes and Barella being two names who seem to fit that description.
Fabregas was clearly emotional during what seemed to be his farewell game against Nottingham Forest at the weekend, but now, he could well remain with the Premier League giants for another few months. If that turns out to be the case, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not he’s given any more game time.
