Fabregas rips into banned Adebayor

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has hit out at former team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor’s violent conduct which led to a three-match ban for the Manchester City striker on Thursday.

Adebayor was handed the ban by the Football Association for stamping on the face of Arsenal’s Robin van Persie during a stormy Premier League match which City won 4-2 last week.

Fabregas said he, too, fell victim to Adebayor and along with teammate Emmanuel Eboue said he was “very disappointed” in the striker’s attitude.

“I think this is a red card here,” said Fabregas, reportedly gesturing to his leg and claiming the injury was suffered in an Adebayor challenge.

“I was lucky my foot was in the air when it happened.”

Fabregas added: “All I tried to do when he (Adebayor) was at Arsenal was to create opportunities for him to score – so I think I didn’t do too bad for him.”

“I have no idea why he acted like this,” said Eboue.

“We always respected him.

“He didn’t do well because you have a lot of young people who watch the game and they see that, and it’s no good for football.

“But I am very, very happy because the FA have given him a three-game ban (for the Van Persie stamp).

“What he did was no good for football. I am very disappointed about it, very disappointed.”

Adebayor could face a further suspension as a result of a charge of improper conduct which was made after he ran the length of the pitch to celebrate his goal in the match in front of Arsenal’s supporters.

That charge will be considered at a later date with City having been given until September 30 to respond to the charge.

Adebayor’s ban could hardly have come at a worse time for City boss Mark Hughes with Carlos Tevez doubtful for the trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United his weekend and both Robinho and Roque Santa Cruz unavailable.

Adebayor has made a superb start to his City career, scoring in each of the club’s league games since his 25-million-pound move from Arsenal.

After Saturday’s match, he publicly apologised for his conduct and claimed he had been overcome by emotion after receiving sustained abuse from the Arsenal fans, many of whom had turned against the striker in his final year at the Emirates.

it is good to respect people….. even if you only know them by the names they put for these comments.
Also, I am glad sumone also had my opinion about Ade being so intent of paying VP for that tackle.

haha…it seems that we almost respect each other – that is weird!

That is fair to say…i’m sure though that we can both agree that we are very much looking forward to the next meeting between these two teams…and this time I don’t want to miss a second!

I do not condone any action to injure any player and Ade was far from dragging that foot…he definitely showed intent and the look on his face after it was done told it all…he wanted RVP to know that he shouldn’t try that again and here’s a taste of what’s coming if you do. But, RVP should be more aware of what’s in store when you try something like that too…the fact that he’s playing the victim shows he’s taking no responsibility, or he shows no regard for the fact that he nearly injured someone. When he said that Ade did not apologize to him, I was thinking ‘What the hell for? You tried to embarass and injure him!’.

well, i guess we’ll have to agree to disagree then.

i still think the 2 incidents are way beyond compare, as one has a player going for the ball and one has a player dragging his foot (dare i say kicking) across the face of a player with no ball…
i see no malice in RvPs attempt (though i am admittedly biased) and when one sees that last angle from the youtube (posted above) i dont see how anyone could compare them.

weird, we didnt even resort to name calling! he he

you see where i’m coming from then…maybe a red is taking it too far, given the circumstances in the game, but I still think there was some intent and contact made on that left foot as Ade brought the ball over to the right…Ade made it look smooth (cuz he wasn’t going to get punked like that) and the ref sees the ball still in play so really he saw no harm done regardless of the intent…which I think there was intent to injure…and so did Ade, obviously.

RVP tried to be slick…and if he had connected, imagine the boost the cheering Arsenal fans would have given the team…but Ade danced on him and wins the game, so I can see how that burns. It was a serious act and requires punishment…if I was judge, i’d say RVP should get to kick him back and everybody gets to play next week…but that’s in my perfect world which is far far away.

Have there been publicized troubles between RvP and Ade in the past?

The tackle from RvP was malicious even if the contact was minimal, and it seems pretty clear that Ade did the same thing right back(only he made contact).

It actually reminds me of the problems vidic and Drogba have. I just didn’t know they disliked each other to that extent. Have I missed all this? or has it just developed since his transfer?

i think the the reason adebayor dished the ball off with his left was because he knew RVP was coming. PLUS, he slid in front of him and did not make contact with him (or the ball for that matter), WITH the ref standing right there. a little reckless ill admit, but no more than yellow, IF he hits Ade, which he didnt…

Ok – I take back my comment about Fab’s bump b/c I thought it came from another play. I missed a few minutes here and there and did not see whatever Fab is talking about.
But, that RVP tackle was not done right…it is right at the feet from the blindside…if Ade didn’t move his feet, that would have been injury material right there…i’m saying it’s reckless cuz I understand that you can’t blind-side somebody like that and make contact…if it’s all ball, fine, but not when the player is in control of the ball and clipped from the side……RVP got right at and under Ade’s feet (no ball), Ade jumps slides ball away with left foot, RVP makes contact on Ade’s left foot and it looks like RVP actually touched the ball but he didn’t…and look at the position of RVP’s legs and cleats as he slides through Ade – they are not even at the ball…that is a definite caution (at least) had Ade not jumped…if I was Ade, i’d be thinking reckless and would be mad as hell…I think RVP had an agenda in going for the ball there…just like Ade had an agenda when he was trying to land his feet.
My whole thing about this is that Arsenal is playing the victim.

totally agree with patrick, you need to watch the game. (and an exciting game it was) and that ade was a trainwreck last yr.
the rvp tackle was most definately not a red, or even a yellow unless he had made a couple bad tackles, then maybe, but at least he had taken the ball, and the ball was in the play.
and if you watch the youtube clip thats 25 secs, there’s a ground view at the end. sure doesnt look like a natural step for adebayor. this is a man who knows what he is doing with his feet.
the celebration just proves that he is void of class and that sort of shame should be punishment enough.
the fabregas one was equally as careless, just not on his face.

@Chelsea FC fan: Did you actually watch the game? If you did you must be blind. That challenge on Ade from RvP was not “reckless” in anyway, not even close, if you watched you would know that, but I guess you only know what you have read. Also the tackle on Cesc wasn’t a “bump in mid-air”. Cesc was already on the ground, Ade put his spikes down into Cesc’s leg. Cesc’s leg was slightly raised so it took a little sting off the stamp.

And the taunts he got from Arsenal fans are completely legitimate. Other players receive abuse all the time, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of abuse than the money-whore. He held our club to ransom, bitching about wanting to go to Barca or Milan. Then when he realised that it wasn’t going to happen he tried to act all loyal to Arsenal, even though he put half-assed performances in all year. He was called offside 41 times! We played with virtually ten men! I’m sorry but to have sympathy for Adebayor is to be blind or biased. I understand you support the Blues and all, but come on.

ya ya bla bla…go ahead and play the innocent victim.

Ade is sneaky but he’s not stupid…he didn’t go out there and just play reckless football…nobody’s talking about RVP’s sliding tackle on Ade…and now Cesc is crying about a bump that happened in the air? nobody’s saying anything about the taunts he was getting from Arsenal fans…but for him to stand up to it he should be punished?

I guess you cannot always bite the hand that feeds you, so I understand the Arsenal fans need to get away with this…and yes, RVP showed a little blood to make it more dramatic and instantly earned the sympathy of the viewers…it’s almost like his reckless tackle on Ade never happened…well, Ade was a little too quick for RVP so he didn’t get hurt, but anyone who didn’t jump out of the way there would have been slammed hard…ah well..so the world turns.
