Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that David Alaba has turned down the chance to join Liverpool and will move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 after leaving Bayern Munich. The versatile star is out of contract at defending German and European champions and will sign a pre-contract with Madrid in the coming weeks.
David Alaba’s pre-contract with Real Madrid is ready since the beginning of January and it’s expected to be signed in the next weeks. His salary will be around €12m [after taxes] per season. #LFC made a top bid to sign him 2 weeks ago but… his dream is called Real Madrid. ⚪️

Romano, who is a well-known and well-respected journalist and works for The Guardian and SkySport, has claimed that Liverpool made an offer to Alaba two weeks ago. However, the 28-year-old – who can operate as central midfielder, left-winger, right-winger, central defender or left-back – turned it down as playing for defending Spanish champions Madrid has always been his dream.
Alaba is one of the best players in the world and is at the top of his game. During his time at Bayern so far this season, the Austria international has won the Bundesliga title nine times and the Champions League twice among other trophies.
