Falcao’s future at Man Utd is uncertain

The agent of Colombia international striker Radamel Falcao, Jorge Mendes, has admitted the player's future at Old Trafford is still up in the air.

The agent of Colombia international striker Radamel Falcao, Jorge Mendes, has admitted the player’s future at Old Trafford is still up in the air.

Falcao, who is currently on a season-long loan deal at United from French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, has bagged just three goals for the Red Devils this season, and was left out of Louis Van Gaal’s matchday squad for Sunday’s home league fixture against Southampton.

According to reports, Falcao, who continues to be linked with Italian Serie A leaders Juventus, was shocked by LVG’s decision to keep him out of the first-team last weekend.

United have an option to buy Falcao for £43.5 million at the end of the season, but Mendes has called into question whether the Reds will complete a permanent move for the Colombian.

“He is a fantastic player, and I think it’s very difficult for Manchester United fans,” Mendes said.

“They have an absolutely brilliant player, one of the very best in the world, who would without any doubt play 90 minutes of the match, every time, with any other club.

“The truth is, right now we don’t know what will happen.

“What we do know is that he will play in one of the very best clubs in the world next season, whether that is Manchester United or not.

“I am 100 per cent sure of that. But you know how football works, we need to wait a little. We’ll see what happens.”

Martinez: Two clubs interested in Eto’o

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has confirmed two unnamed clubs are interested in signing Samuel Eto’o during the January transfer window.

Eto’o, 33, has been linked with an exit from Goodison Park after failing to establish himself as a first-team regular starter under Martinez.

The 33-year-old, who has one-and-a-half year remaining on his current deal, has scored three goals in 14 English Premier League appearances for the 12th-place Toffees (5-7-9) this term.

“A couple of clubs have contacted us in last 12 hours about signing Eto’o,” Martinez said.

“We have to sit down and discuss what to do. I decided it was best he wasn’t involved tonight. He will continue to train with us. He hasn’t asked to leave.”

Villa sign Gil from Valencia

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Carles Gil from Valencia for a reported fee of around £3.2 million.

Gil, a Spain Under-21 international, has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year deal at the Birmingham-based club.

“We’ve been on the lookout for a creative player and he will certainly bring that extra element to the side,” said Villa manager Lambert.

“He’s only 22 years of age but he will come here and give us something I don’t think we have at the moment. He can play either role, coming in off the sides or playing in behind as well.

“He can create chances and get those chances put away. He has a lot to offer and I know we can get the best out of him.”
