Manchester City’s £50m left back Benjamin Mendy is set to face months on the side-lines after sustaining a knee injury in the Citizens’ 5-0 win over Crystal Palace. The news has prompted manager Pep Guardiola to seek a temporary replacement, and the masterful manager is targeting Napoli fullback Faouzi Ghoulam, according to Sky Sports.
Mendy has had an excellent start to the season so this injury is certainly a blow for a Manchester City side that currently sit top of the Premier League. Fabian Delph filled in for the Frenchman against Chelsea at the weekend, but left back isn’t his natural position and Guardiola is renowned for utilising his fullbacks extensively.
Napoli left back Ghoulam is the potential target in January, and the Algerian looks like a good fit for the Guardiola system. He has two goals and three assists in the Serie A this season, and his signature could keep City on track for a title-winning season.
