QPR midfielder Alejandro Faurlin will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.
The Argentine was stretchered off towards the end of Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie away to MK Dons, which QPR drew 1-1.
The 25-year-old said on Twitter: “It’s bad news for me I have rupture of the ACL I’m out for the rest of the season. Really disappointed. Sad.”
“Things never been easy for me. But for sure I will be back stronger. I accept this test as professional and person as well.”
Faurlin was signed by the west London club in July 2009 for 3.5 million pounds from Instituto in Argentina, and in his first season was voted both fans’ and players’ player of the year.
He was a crucial part of last season’s Championship-winning side, and had been ever present so far this season in central midfield.
His absence adds to the growing list of problems faced by the London side, who dismissed manager Neil Warnock on Sunday after slumping to 17th having picked up two points in eight matches.
Former Wales manager Mark Hughes is favourite to take on the role, but whoever lands the job at Loftus Road will immediately face the challenge of finding a partner in central midfield for Shaun Derry, as Joey Barton is suspended until February 1.
