Portuguese giants FC Porto have announced the signing of young midfielder Josef de Souza Dias from Brazilian outfit Vasco da Gama. The Brazilian U-20 international has signed a four year contract with the Dragons. Porto have paid Vasco 3.5 million euros for the 21 year old’s services.
Rio de Janeiro born Souza becomes the fifth Brazilian player at FC Porto, joining goalkeeper Helton, defender Maicon Pereira, midfielder Fernando and striker Hulk at the Dragao. He was reportedly a target for several European clubs and Vasco president Roberto Dinamite said that he possessed all the necessary ingredients to flourish at Porto.
Porto finished third in the 09/10 Portuguese Liga. They missed out on qualification for the Champions League and will be competing in the playoff round of the 2010-11 Europa League.
