Portuguese giants FC Porto and Sporting CP are locked in the battle for Sao Paulo defender Junior Tavares, according to ESPN Brasil.

The 21-year-old’s agent was given permission to travel to Portugal and speak to interested clubs, with the Brazilian outfit clearly hoping to secure the best possible deal.

ESPN Brasil claims that APOEL and Rennes are also keen, but FC Porto and Sporting CP clearly have the upper hand at the moment.

The left-sided defender has so far made 40 league appearances for Sao Paulo, having come through the youth ranks at Gremio.

Junior Tavares recently signed a new deal until December 2021 with the club, but he could be leaving for Europe as early as this summer.
