February 12th: Wednesday’s Championship Double – 7/1 Special, Betting Tips & Predictions

While the Champions League might steal plenty of the midweek headlines, we have a heavyweight Championship fixtures list on the cards.

As the likes of Sheffield United and Burnley look to extend on their respective promotion charges, we have seven Championship battles across Wednesday night.

With a string of season-defining showdowns from both ends of the Championship table, we have taken a look at two of the most appealing Wednesday betting tips that are available.

19:45 Sunderland vs Luton Town

While Sunderland might have been frustrated last time out as they eventually had to settle for a 2-2 stalemate against Watford, the Black Cats have continued to gain a string of plaudits from across the Championship. Looking to move within touching distance of the automatic promotion spots, Wednesday’s hosts will be confident of making an immediate return to winning ways here. Getting February underway with a sensational 3-2 victory away at bitter local rivals Middlesbrough, Regis Le Bris should find the mood in his camp at a real high. Pencilled in as a leading play-off contender in 2025, Sunderland are unbeaten in each of their previous seven consecutive Championship appearances. Making another statement on New Year’s Day as they secured a 2-1 win against Sheffield United, the Black Cats will be excited by their recent clinical performances in the final third. In fact, Le Bris’ camp have recorded seven goals in just their last three Championship showdowns.

Although Luton might have opened up the 2024/25 campaign with their sights set on securing an immediate Premier League return, the Hatters have continued to show a string of glaring issues this season. Coming under a huge amount of scrutiny, Matt Bloomfield has a real job on his hands. Remarkably at the heart of a Championship relegation scrap and opening the midweek fixtures sat two points adrift of safety, Wednesday’s guests have failed to win any of their previous nine consecutive appearances across all competitions. Likewise, Luton have put just two points on the board from their last eight Championship showdowns – a rut that stems all the way back to December 20th. It should also be highlighted, the Hatters have gained a major reputation for their glaring struggles away from Kenilworth Road. In fact, Bloomfield’s struggling squad have recorded just a single Championship point on the travels since the middle of September.

20:00 Sheffield United vs Middlesbrough

While Sheffield United might have opened 2025 in the midst of a minor rut, Chris Wilder’s camp have come roaring back in an eye-catching fashion. Claiming a 2-1 victory against Portsmouth last weekend, the Blades are simply looking to widen their buffer in the automatic promotion chase. With many billing Wednesday’s hosts as a leading contender to make a Premier League return, the former Watford boss has seen his squad win five of their previous six Championship appearances. Getting February underway with a 1-0 win against Derby, Sheffield United will know the importance of laying down another promotion marker here. With it looking like their shock 3-0 drumming against Hull is nothing more than a minor blip, Wilder’s side should be smelling a real opportunity in midweek. Conceding just 22 Championship strikes this season and holding the third-best defensive tally, the Blades are enjoying their most fruitful spell since opening the New Year.

Falling to a dramatic 3-2 loss at home against arch-rivals Sunderland last time out, Middlesbrough are enduring what has become a real Championship struggle. Falling out of the play-off places, Michael Carrick’s men have the feel of a squad desperately seeking some kind of stability. However, signing off January with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Preston, Wednesday’s guests have lost four of their previous five appearances across all competitions. Watching their FA Cup adventure come to a shock end last month as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home against Blackburn, Carrick’s camp have also won just a pair of their last 10 outings – a run that stems back to December 14th. Hit with another 2-1 defeat against relegation scrappers Portsmouth last month, Middlesborough have also suffered back-to-back defeats away from the Riverside. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class between Wednesday’s opponents, we are backing a home victory here.
