The deal to take Nabil Fekir from Lyon to Liverpool was all but done, with the two clubs having agreed the fee and Fekir having agreed personal terms with Liverpool. According to multiple sources, everything was arranged by Thursday evening and an official announcement expected on Friday, but neither club has confirmed anything at this point.
With plenty of speculations about a possible reason for this silence going around, several journalists, usually very reliable when it comes to Liverpool, believe the issue lies in the results of the medical. Liverpool were reportedly aware of his knee problem, but only the medical revealed the full extent of the issue. The Merseyside club have some experience with that as Joe Gomez and Danny Ings both suffered severely from knee problems, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is still out because of one, forcing him to miss the World Cup.
The reported fee of £48million up front and £4million in add-ons is not a meaningless sum, and Liverpool will want to make sure of the player’s condition in full before paying it.
