Fenerbahce close on Mathieu Valbuena

French media outlet Le 10 Sport has learned that Fenerbahce are in pole position to sign French midfielder Mathieu Valbuena from Lyon.

The player’s return to Ligue 1 did not go as planned considering that he struggled for form at Parc OL, and les Gones have decided to cash in on his services.

And while Mexican giants Tigres have expressed their interest in the France international, Fenerbahce were the first side to make concrete moves.

According to reports, the Canaries have already held first meeting with Lyon officials to discuss the transfer fee, and an agreement should be reached soon considering that les Gones want between €4m and €5m for the 31-year-old footballer.

Mathieu Valbuena surprisingly opted to join Dynamo Moscow two years ago as top European clubs were lining up for his signature, but his poor form last season saw quite a few of his suitors lose interest.
