FC Twente midfielder Leroy Fer has stated Premier League side Everton are interested in his signature, and he would be open to a move.
The 23-year-old was set to sign for the Merseyside club in the January transfer window, but the move was scuppered due to concerns over a knee injury and Everton’s subsequent reluctance to splash out for the player, who is currently captaining the Netherlands at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Roberto Martinez has since taken over the managerial position at the club, after David Moyes replaced Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
And while Fer admits he has not been approached personally over another round of talks at Goodison Park, he would jump at the chance to sign for a club in the English top-flight.
“I haven’t heard about anything. But I think my manager did. I think Everton are still interested in me, but I have to focus on the tournament,” he is quoted by talkSPORT.
“Would I like to go to the Premier League this summer? Yes. It’s a very nice competition.
“But my focus now is on the European Championship here and afterwards we will see.”
