Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand believes his side’s away form this season is the key to beating Manchester City to the title.
The Red Devils continued their impressive away form in the Premier League with a 3-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday, making it 10 wins out of 14 games on the road, doubling last season’s record.
Ferdinand feels the manner of the victory at White Hart Lane epitomises the belief and determination his team possess in the final stages of the season.
“Last year, I don’t know what it was. It could have been complacency, expecting to win games whereas at the moment we’re being very professional,” Ferdinand told MUTV.
“We’re hard to break down, hard to beat and we know that we’ve got players on the break who can beat anybody. (White Hart Lane) is a tough place to come. Spurs are a team with talented players.”
“We’ve had that over the years; we’ve never had an easy win here. We knew we had to work hard and they made us work hard for the win.”
The defender also had praise for under-fire goalkeeper David de Gea and told of the Spaniard’s desire to improve himself at the club after a string of mistakes in the first half of the season.
“David de Gea’s made some good strides in goal,” he said. “He’s learning, he wants to be a better keeper and wants to improve, and that’s vital in a young player’s make-up.”
