Rio Ferdinand has accused the FA of dragging its heels in the investigation into the alleged racial abuse of younger brother Anton Ferdinand by John Terry.

The Manchester United defender used Twitter to vent his frustration over the issue, just an hour before FIFA dismissed pleas from the FA to allow the England team to wear poppies in their game against Spain on Saturday.

The 33-year-old wrote: “Powers that be do make stands on certain issues I see.”

Clearly unhappy with the FA’s ability to solve other matters much faster, Ferdinand added: “Antolin Alcaraz of Wigan dealt with within three days …. #efficient”

Terry, who was accused of aiming racial abuse at Anton Ferdinand in Chelsea’s game against QPR last month, has been selected by Fabio Capello for the England squad, and could even feature in Saturday’s game at Wembley.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has also criticised the FA for its handling of the matter, accusing the FA of not being able to stand up to the England captain.

The FA is also investigating claims that Luis Suarez racially abused Patrice Evra in Liverpool’s draw with Manchester United at Anfield, although the Uruguayan strongly denies the accusation and has asked for an apology.
