Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United’s knowledge of how to deal with the Premier League run-in gave them the advantage over Manchester City.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men comfortably beat QPR 2-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday to go eight points clear of rivals City, who were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal to all but end their title hopes.
Ferdinand feels United’s experience was key to pulling away from their City rivals.
“We’ve been in this position before and that counts for a lot,” he said.
“We know what it takes to get over the finishing line first and we’ve got to use all that experience to make sure we do it again.
“But the young players are all putting their two pence worth in and it’s a group effort, everyone’s contribution counts.
“We didn’t think about getting into this position, but we never doubted we could put a good run of games together and win games, and that’s what you need to do.
“Momentum at this stage in the season is the most important thing.
“You have to make sure you can get a good run together and win you’re remaining games, and we’ve ticked one off today. Hopefully we can keep on going.”
