Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand has criticised Liverpool’s Charlie Adam, claiming the Scot went to ground too easily at Anfield on Saturday.
Adam’s runs had caused problems for United all afternoon and when he powered through after the hour mark the former Blackpool man went down under a challenge from Ferdinand.
A free-kick was awarded, and Steven Gerrard stepped up to hammer it through the United wall to give the home side a 1-0 lead, although Javier Hernandez’s late equaliser ensured United earned a point.
While admitting he made contact with Adam, Ferdinand was unhappy with the Scot’s reaction.
“There was the slightest contact but not enough to make a guy who’s 12-13 stone fall like that,” Ferdinand told Sky Sports.
The game offered little excitement in the first half but came to life in the second and Ferdinand admitted the visitors would have accepted a draw before kick-off.
“We are happy with a point at the end, they had chances at the end, but parts of the second half we controlled them and played some good football,” he said.
“Considering what we’ve gone through in the last couple of years, I think three times on the spin we’ve lost here, so a point is not a bad result.”
The result sees Manchester United continue their unbeaten start to the season, and the 32-year-old said he was glad to be back playing following his injury woes of late.
“These are the atmospheres you want to play in,” he said. “It’s great to be playing again.”
