Ferdinand hoping for some brotherly love

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is hoping his brother Anton can help QPR beat Manchester City in their final league game of the season.

QPR’s relegation struggles go down to the last day, with a point against Roberto Mancini’s men being enough to maintain their top-tier status.

However, City need a victory to guarantee their first league title since 1968, with rivals United ready to pounce on any slip up, and Rio Ferdinand is hoping his younger brother can help his team.

“Rio’s been on the phone asking for a favour,” Anton told The Sun.

“But it’s about us. I’m concentrating on QPR as we have a massive job to do for ourselves.

“We’ve got to go there and get a point, if not three. I have faith in my team-mates that we could possibly do that.”

A QPR loss at the hands of City will leave the London club’s hopes in the hands of Bolton, who will fill the last relegation slot if they fail to get a win on the weekend away at Stoke.

“If we do get a result and United and Rio go on to win the title, then I will be chuffed for him,” Ferdinand said.

“If they don’t win it but we stay up I will be very, very happy. City have so much riding on it – but so have we.

“This game determines whether people keep jobs or not at our club. We have to make sure every single person keeps their job for next season.

Regardless of their fate, QPR owner Tony Fernandes insisted he will remain at the club for the foreseeable future.
