Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping veteran defender Rio Ferdinand will be signing a new deal at Old Trafford.
Ferdinand, 34, has entered the final year of his contract at Manchester United and he has yet to sign a contract extension.
It appears the player is currently considering his future, with clubs from China, United States and Far East reportedly keen.
However, Sir Alex Ferguson is perfectly happy with the player’s performances this season and believes he will follow Ryan Giggs in signing a new deal at Old Trafford.
“That is a strong possibility. It would have to happen before the end of the season,” the Scottish manager was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“I think he has had a great season. He has managed himself the right way and we have contributed to that in the preparation we give him.
Rio Ferdinand had been heavily criticized for his poor displays last term, but he has been in excellent form this season, especially impressing in the derby matches.
He is currently in his 11th season at Old Trafford, and everything suggests he will stay on at least for another season.
