Fergie finds Van der Sar replacement; Mancini doesn’t fear the sack

Fergie finds Van der Sar replacement

Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly singled out Rangers and Scotland number 1 Allan McGregor as the man to replace Edwin van der Sar.

United chief scout Martin Ferguson watched the keeper in action against Valencia and he has given Fergie the go ahead to attempt to sign the fellow Scotsman.

Manchester United officials have contacted Rangers regarding McGregor and they are preparing a January move for the Gers goalie.

Seeing that Rangers have tied their back-up keeper Neil Alexander to a new deal, it looks as though they are already preparing for the life without McGregor.

Manchester United were linked with a number of keepers over the last few months, including David De Gea, Rene Adler and Manuel Neuer, so it may come as a surprise they opted for Allan McGregor.

Nonetheless, the Rangers keeper has been in remarkable form for both club and country this season and it seems he has convinced Sir Alex he would be a perfect successor for Edwin van der Sar.

Mancini: I don’t fear the sack

Despite the disappointing defeat to Lech Poznan, City’s third in a row, Roberto Mancini says he is not afraid of being sacked.

Even though everything would suggest otherwise, the Italian says he is still in control of the team and that his job is perfectly safe.

“Why should I worry about being fired?” said a defiant Mancini. “This does not exist. To say the team are against me is lies – all rubbish.

“There were some hard discussions with some players, but the team follows me and results are arriving.

“City are fourth in the standings and we were in second recently. The club have asked me to qualify for next season’s Champions League and we are going well to achieve that.”

It is more than clear Mancini is doing everything he can in order to save his job, but I believe he’s been given more than enough time and that these kind of results are simply unacceptable given the quality of players he has at his disposal.

Boca Juniors coach denies interest in Chile job

Boca Juniors boss Claudio Borghi says he will not leave the club in order to take over the Chilean national team following Marcelo Bielsa’s resignation.

Marcelo Bielsa has resigned from the national team post after Jorge Segovia won the presidential election with Boca Juniors coach Claudio Borghi widely tipped to take over.

Nonetheless, Borghi says he is not prepared to leave Boca Juniors.

“Boca’s board have shown me a great support, so it would be ungrateful of me to consider another job,” said Borghi.

“I am Boca coach until the time, the results and the chiefs say otherwise. If someone wants to talk to me, I will attend. But, for something to happen after that is very unlikely.”

Marcelo Bielsa’s departure is set to leave a big gap to fill after the Argentine coach has built a great side that impressed at the World Cup in South Africa and his successor definitely faces a tough time even though he will inherit an outstanding squad.
