Fergie: I didn’t want to sign Joe Cole

Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he had been offered the chance to sign Joe Cole in the build-up to the highly anticipated clash with Liverpool.

The Scottish manager says he didn’t want to get involved with so many clubs chasing the England international.

“We were approached by his agent at one point but we didn’t enter into discussions. It was maybe just too complicated to get involved.”

Joe Cole went on to sign a four-year deal with Liverpool and he will now have the chance to prove Ferguson wrong when the two sides meet at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Cole has just served his three-match suspension for the red card he picked up in the Premier League opener against Arsenal and this will be just his second league game for the Reds.
