Fergie keen on Benfica star duo
Manchester United are weighing up double swoop for Benfica stars Nicolas Gaitan and Javi Garcia, according to Independent.
Disappointed by the Champions League exit and some unexpected struggles in the Premiership, Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to add some fresh talent in January.
According to Independent, the Scottish manager is really keen on Benfica duo Nicolas Gaitan and Javi Garcia.
The Red Devils have followed the Argentine forward for quite some time and they had the chance to witness his qualities at first hand as United and Benfica met twice in Champions League group stages.
The 23-year-old is considered a key member of the squad at La Luz and his release clause stands at €45 million.
Gaitan is not the only Benfica player followed by Manchester United as Fergie is also interested in signing holding midfielder Javi Garcia.
The former Real Madrid player has grown into one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe and Ferguson believes he would be a great addition to the squad at Old Trafford.
Javi Garcia has a contract with Benfica until June 2014 and his release clause is €30 million.
Borussia Dortmund chasing Lyon full-back
Borussia Dortmund are showing interest in signing Lyon full-back Aly Cissokho, L’Equipe reports.
The Bundesliga champions are short on cover at left-back and would like to add another player to challenge Marcel Schmelzer for the starting place.
BVB boss Jurgen Klopp has shown interest in signing Lyon defender Aly Cissokho and he could instruct the club chiefs to make an official bid for the player’s services.
According to L’Equipe, Borussia Dortmund emissaries had the player watched in Lyon’s win over Lorient at the weekend.
Cissokho arrived to Lyon from Porto for the fee of €15 million in the summer of 2009, but the player is reportedly looking for a new challenge.
The 24-year-old has a contract until June 2014 at Gerland and was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer.
Yoann Gourcuff rules out January exit
Lyon star Yoann Gourcuff has moved to deny reports that he will be leaving the club in January.
The player, who had shone at Bordeaux two years ago, has had a pretty disappointing start to his career at Gerland.
However, the biggest European clubs haven’t forgotten about him, with Arsene Wenger having a bid for Gourcuff rejected last summer.
The Gunners boss is ready to return for the French playmaker in January, but the player says he is happy at Lyon, at least for the time being.
“I’m here. I’m at Lyon and I’m quiet,” Gourcuff told French TV station Canal Plus.
“My goal is to have the best possible season with Lyon, to produce good performance in the second half of the season with Lyon and then go to the Euros.”
