Ferguson junior has another job lined up says Fry

Former Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson, son of Manchester United boss Sir Alex, has been accused of lining up another job before his departure from the Championship club.

Ferguson left struggling Peterborough on Tuesday and was initially reported to have been sacked.

But Peterborough director of football Barry Fry and chairman Darragh MacAnthony, whose team are bottom of the Championship, added to the confusion surrounding Ferguson’s exit on Wednesday.

Ferguson, 37, had earned a glowing reputation as one of the best young managers in England after guiding Peterborough to back-to-back promotions from League Two.

And Fry insisted the decision to part company was mutual as he expects Ferguson – a former Manchester United and Wolverhampton midfielder – to be at another club within days.

“I think Darren will get a job very soon and my own personal opinion is that he already has one,” he said.

“He will get a chance at a big club and he will do very well. There is no doubt about that.

“Every day there is a different club linked with him so he will be all right. There will be nobody more delighted if Darren manages a Premier League club successfully than us.”

MacAnthony added: “Barry had a chat with Darren on Sunday about another issue and after that chat we decided it was time to go.

“He is free to go to another club now, our business is done. He can work for whoever he wants.

“I’m not saying that he has been approached by another club but I don’t expect him to be on the shelf for long, put it that way.”

In a statement issued through the League Managers’ Association later Wednesday, Ferguson insisted Peterborough’s claims were false.

“Unfortunately, Barry Fry has intimated that I already have a new position in place,” he said.

“I can categorically confirm that is 100 percent untrue. However, these comments have not impacted upon my feelings towards my time at Peterborough United, the players, the chairman and the support.”
