Ferguson wanted Gerrard and Torres

Former Manchester United manager has revealed that he attempted to sign both Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres during his time at Old Trafford, according to the Express.

The 71 year old, who won thirteen Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies in a twenty-six year spell at the club, made the revelation in his autobiography, which is released this week.

Liverpool captain Gerrard was thought to be close to securing a move to Chelsea back in 2004, and Ferguson has said that he too attempted to lure the midfielder away from Anfield.

In the case of Torres, the Scot claims that United were interested in signing him while he was just sixteen, and at Atletico Madrid.

The Spain international eventually signed for Liverpool in 2007, before moving on to Chelsea three and-a-half years later, while Gerrard has remained on Merseyside for his entire career so far, racking up well over six-hundred appearances in fifteen years.
