Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes has revealed that Loic Remy was on the verge of penning a new deal with the club before Chelsea declared their interest in the forward, according to the Express.
Remy moved to Loftus Road in January 2013, but was loaned to Newcastle United just seven months later following the Hoops’ relegation to the Championship.
He returned to Rangers this after representing France at this summer’s World Cup finals and featured in their first two games of the season, though Chelsea pounced to secure a deal for the 27 year old a day before the transfer window slammed shut.
Harry Redknapp’s side have taken just four points from their opening seven games so far this season, and yesterday’s 2-0 defeat by West Ham United saw them slip to the bottom of the table and become odds on to be relegated back to the Championship at a price of 4/6.
