Feyenoord have confirmed reports they are on the verge of signing international defender Joris Mathijsen from Malaga.
The Dutch defender is another player who is looking to leave Malaga this summer and it appears that he is set for a return to Eredivisie.
Feyenoord are doing their best to bring the player to De Kuyp and club technical director Martin van Geel confirms they will go the extra mile to sign the Dutch international.
“We are doing everything to sign him,” the Feyenoord official said to Voetbal International.
“Our squad are just too young, so Joris would be more than welcome. Not only does he have experience, but his character and personality also fit Feyenoord.”
The Dutch giants have stayed without several important players this summer given that Karim El Ahmadi, Ron Vlaar, John Guidetti and Otman Bakkal were all allowed to leave and they are currently desperately short on experience.
Therefore, it is no wonder they are trying to sign Mathijsen, a very experience player who has 82 Netherlands caps to his name.
The 32-year-old only joined Malaga last summer, but, like many of his teammates, he is now looking to leave the club that are in huge financial problems.
