Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord have moved to confirm reports linking them with former player Dirk Kuyt.
The 34-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Fenerbahce and he is widely tipped to return to the Netherlands.
His former club Feyenoord have emerged as favourites to recruit the veteran attacker, and coach Fred Rutten has all but confirmed a move for Kuyt.
“I think it’s the most important thing that the player is fit. He would bring a wealth of experience with it and can play in many different positions,” Rutten told FOX Sports.
“Who wouldn’t want to work with Kuyt?”
Despite the fact he is not getting any younger, the former Netherlands international is still regarded an important player at Fenerbahce.
He has started 19 league fixtures this season, scoring 6 goals and taking his goal tally to 24 in 82 Super Lig outings.
It was at Feyenoord that Kuyt enjoyed the best years of his career, having bagged 71 goals in 101 league appearances before moving to Liverpool, where he would spend next six seasons.
The forward represented Netherlands between 2004 and 2014, amassing 104 caps.
