Netherlands international midfielder Jordy Clasie has revealed that he was on the verge of joining FC Porto this summer.
Following a very successful season in Dutch Eredivisie and some good performances for Oranje at the 2014 World Cup, the 23-year-old was widely expected to leave De Kuip for greener pastures.
And at one moment it looked as though he would join FC Porto, but the transfer ultimately fell through, with the Dragons signing Casemiro and Jose Campana instead.
Clasie has suggested that he was keen on joining the Portuguese side, but insists that he doesn’t know why the negotiations failed to materialise.
“It seemed like the logical time to leave,” the Netherlands starlet confessed to Voetbal International.
“Porto approached Feyenoord and I was feeling good about the possibility of playing in Portugal.
”All conditions were clear, depending on the agreement between the clubs. FC Porto offered €6 million, but then ended contacts.”
Jordy Clasie eventually remained at De Kuip, but it is clear that the Dutch giants won’t be able to keep hold of him for much longer.
The talented midfielder has been in scintillating form ever since he returned from a loan spell with Excelsior, scoring 6 goals in 103 Eredivisie outings.
