Feyenoord sporting director Martin van Geel has confirmed that the Rotterdam giants are interested in signing NEC midfielder John Goossens.
A recent report already suggested that Feyenoord were keen to lure the former Ajax starlet to De Kuip, and Van Geel has now made it clear that the 23-year-old is indeed a transfer target for the Eredivisie giants.
“We really want to sign him for next season. He can play in all positions on the left. He can feature as a left-back, in midfield and as a winger. Additionally, he has a great free kick,” Van Geel said.
“He is still young, but already has plenty of experience in the Eredivisie. The scouting staff, technical staff, and I all think that he has what it takes to become a key player at Feyenoord.”
Goossens is a product of the Ajax youth academy, but joined NEC without making any league appearances for the Amsterdam club. His current contract with the Nijmegen side expires in June 2012.
